Before you install a PrestaShop module

A short checklist to make changes to your store with a recovery plan in place.

1. Record your environment

In your PrestaShop administration, open Advanced Parameters → Information. Note the PrestaShop version, PHP version, active theme and relevant modules. Compare these with the module’s documented requirements.

2. Create a complete backup

Back up both the database and store files. Store the copy separately from the live shop and verify that your hosting team can restore it. A database-only backup does not include uploaded files.

3. Use a test store

Use a separate, access-restricted copy of your shop. Disable outgoing customer emails, scheduled jobs and live payment integrations in that copy. Do not expose copied customer data.

4. Install and verify

Follow the module’s own installation steps. Test its functionality, mobile display, customer account and checkout. Check for errors and conflicts with your active theme or other modules.

5. Plan the live change

Keep your backup and the previous working module version. Choose a suitable maintenance window, apply the tested configuration and repeat your checks on the live store.
